During breakfast, my husband threw boiling coffee in my face because I refused to give my bank card to his sister. He told me, “Either you obey or you leave.” I went to the hospital, put away the medical report, and when I returned, I left my wedding ring on the table… without imagining what he would find later.

PART 1

“If you don’t give your bank card to my sister, get out of my house!” Alejandro Salazar shouted, before throwing a cup of boiling coffee directly into his wife’s face.

It wasn’t an accident.

He did it on purpose, blinded by rage and with the cold certainty of a man convinced that no one in his house would dare confront him. The scalding coffee splashed onto Valeria Morales’s left cheek, trickled down her neck, and soaked the white blouse she had chosen for a video call with her clients. For two long seconds, she couldn’t even scream. She only felt fire.

Then came the pain.

Valeria knocked over the chair as she stood up, ran to the sink, and turned on the cold water with trembling hands. The icy stream hit her burned skin as she tried to catch her breath, but Alejandro didn’t even move.

She stood by the table, holding her phone, watching the scene as if she were the one exaggerating.

“See what you made me do?” she said with a calmness far more terrifying than the attack. “My sister will arrive this afternoon. You’re going to hand over your bank card, your designer handbags, and anything else she wants. If you don’t like it, pack your things and disappear.”

Valeria closed her eyes.

Not because of the pain.

But because, for the first time in years, he accepted a truth he had been refusing to acknowledge for far too long.

That man had not lost control.

He believed she belonged to him.

They lived in an apartment in Polanco, Mexico City. It wasn’t a luxury property, but it was Valeria’s. She had bought it before getting married, after working for eight years as an administrator at a logistics company, saving every bonus, every Christmas bonus, and every peso that others spent on vacations.

Alejandro then appeared in her life with his charming insurance agent smile, his impeccable suits, and an almost supernatural ability to get along with everyone.

To the neighbors, he was a thoughtful man.

To his mother, he was the perfect son.
