It was folded twice, the crease worn soft. At the top was the letterhead of Marcus’s old law firm. The date was eight years ago.
My breath slowed as I read.
Dear Mrs. Reynolds,
Per your request, this confirms that Mr. Marcus Reynolds has not been formally served with the enclosed medical documentation. No acknowledgment of paternity, financial responsibility, or custodial interest has been made at this time. Unless otherwise directed by Mr. Reynolds personally, no further action will be taken.
My hands tightened.
