2 medium carrots (#3, not to overload sugar)
1⁄2 orange (not whole; excess acid may bother)
1 small handful of fresh spinach (about 20 grams)
1⁄2 green apple (better than red, less sugar)
1⁄4 lemon juice
150 ml of water (no water is very thick and difficult to drink)
Wash everything well. Cut it into pieces. Blend with the water. No necks: Apple fiber and spinach is important for sugars to be absorbed slowly. Drink in the moment; in 20 minutes the antioxidants are oxidized.
Indications for proper use (what no one says)
Don’t make fasts if you have gastritis. Lemon and orange can irritate. Better after breakfast or about mid-morning.
Realistic frequency: 3 or 4 times a week, not daily. Excess beta-carotene stain orange peel (no joke, it’s called carotenoderma) and the liver works harder.
Don’t expect changes in a week. Lutein takes months to rise in the retina. Consistency is key, but patiently.
The real trick to make it work: Add healthy fat when you take the juice. Beta-carotene and lutein are absorbed with fat. Take the juice along with 5 almonds, half avocado or a piece of cheese. Without that, much of the nutrients pass by.
Important notice
If you have diabetes, check this juice: carrot + apple + orange is a lot of sugar at once. Prefer only carrot and spinach with lemon. If you take blood thinners, check for spinach earlier (rich in vitamin K). And if you see flying flies, flashes or a black curtain, run to the ophthalmologist. That’s not fixed by any juice.
