Ana remained motionless.
The colonel held his braid and said with a firm voice, so that everyone would hear him:
“Thus you will learn not to challenge those who are above you.
A moment later, the scissors closed their leaves.
The heavy braid fell to the ground.
A deep silence enveloped the entire courtyard.
The colonel stared at the young woman.
I was hoping to see her cry.
I was hoping to see her collapse.
I was hoping he’d beg forgiveness.
But none of that happened.
Ana didn’t even move.
His face remained serene.
He kept looking ahead, like nothing had happened.
That unexpected calm further enraged the colonel.
He took a step towards her.
Do you really think you are someone special?
The young woman did not respond.
You are nothing but a simple recruit.
Not a word.
“Now, without that beautiful hair, you finally look like a real soldier and not a spoiled child.
An awkward murmur went through the ranks again. Many soldiers looked down, unable to hide their discomfort.
But the colonel was not yet finished.
You have a concept too high of yourself. Never forget what your place is.
The colonel was convinced that he had the right to humiliate an innocent person. However, what Ana did immediately afterwards left the whole company completely stunned. 😱
