What we know about Jayden Adams funeral arrangements

articleUseronJuly 14, 2026

The family of late Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams will announce details of his memorial service and funeral in due course, family spokesman Brendine Johnson confirmed on Monday.

The 25-year-old South African international passed away over the weekend, prompting an outpouring of grief from across the football world.

A South African Football Association (SAFA) delegation, led by president Danny Jordaan, visited the Adams family home in Idas Valley, Stellenbosch, on Monday to pay their respects and offer condolences.

Johnson said the family would communicate arrangements for the memorial service and funeral once they have been finalised.

‘Devastating loss’

Adams had only recently returned to South Africa after representing Bafana Bafana at FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Adams started two of the three World Cup matches he appeared in for South Africa, despite the death of his grandmother, Marianna, one day before the 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic.

He started in that match, as well as the game in which South Africa lost 2-0 to Mexico. He was a substitute in a 1-0 win over South Korea.

He was an unused substitute when South Africa was knocked out of the tournament by Canada.

Speaking during the visit, Jordaan described Adams’ death as a devastating loss for South African football.

“This is still so difficult to process, such a sad loss. Our sincere condolences to the family of Jayden Adams,” said Jordaan.

“He made tremendous progress and was included in the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. While we were in the United States, we were informed about the loss of his grandmother. We were then shocked and saddened to hear of Jayden’s passing this weekend.

“It is a huge loss to his family, Stellenbosch, Mamelodi Sundowns and South African football. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
